With a game plan and some organization – finished the WOD at 6:00 and showered, changed, made it through security, venti coffee from Starbucks (ok – it helps that they know me by name and what I’m having so its waiting for me at the counter by the time I get there) and sitting at the airline gate by 6:45. If you would have told me a year ago that I’d arrange my travel around being able to make it to Crossfit in the mornings, I would have laughed until I cried. But it’s do-able with a plan.
Another part of the plan is having a plan B. In this case, being prepared for travel and meeting quirks. A meeting runs long, a plane is delayed, Honolulu traffic is a nightmare – and before you know it the hunger monster is ordering a double whooper with cheese, large fries, and a coke. So never, ever, ever approach hungry. It ain’t pretty for some of us.
My food supply in my purse – a package of tuna, a serving of chocolate hazelnut butter, and a Luna protein bar. I won’t approach hungry unless the day really goes up in flames. The tuna is sometimes eaten all by itself, but on a no other choice travel day it’ll find itself on top of a Subway salad.
Plan B presumes you have a Plan A. Today I’m working near an Aloha Salads restaurant. There is a reason it wins the best of Honolulu awards so frequently. Oh yeah.
